Phawu Lethu is a dedicated non-profit organization based in the Western Cape, South Africa. We are committed to combating hunger and improving lives through sustainable initiatives that support our communities. Since our founding, Phawu Lethu has served as a beacon of hope, particularly during times of crisis, by providing essential nutrition and support to thousands across the province.

Patron
Masizole Mnqasela
Masizole “Masi” had a vision to support vulnerable communities and address food insecurity. In 2019 the organization appointed Masi as a dedicated patron, further solidifying its commitment to its mission. In 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic posed a significant challenge, but it also tested the strength and resolve of Phawu Lethu. The organization responded by establishing 54 community food kitchens across the Western Cape, feeding approximately 8,000 people daily. By the end of September 2020, over 3 million meals had been served. Many of them were in the Overberg Municipality, however many are across the
province. The most important thing is that this was to declare war against hunger.
Community Food Kitchens
Phawu Lethu operates 54 community food kitchens across municipalities including Overstrand, Stellenbosch, and Cape Town. These kitchens provide daily meals to those in need, tackling immediate hunger and nutrition gaps.
Partnerships and Collaborations
We work with private donors, government entities, and local churches like Shofa Church in Batuga. These partnerships allow us to reach more people and secure the resources needed to make a lasting impact.
Direct Funding and Support
In select locations, such as the Woodlands kitchen and our founder’s local kitchen, we receive direct support to ensure consistent operations, allowing us to provide steady help in areas of greatest need.
